EUR/USD Attempts a Recovery as Dollar Rally Loses Momentum

EUR/USD found room to recover on Thursday as the US dollar gave back part of its post-inflation advance. The euro’s rebound followed a sharp move lower earlier in the week, when stronger US price data encouraged traders to reassess the outlook for Federal Reserve policy.

Dollar weakness offers short-term relief

The September US inflation report showed headline CPI at 3.7% year over year, above the 3.6% forecast. The release initially pushed the dollar higher, but a pullback in Treasury yields and comments from Fed officials later softened the move.

A recovery in EUR/USD does not necessarily signal a lasting trend reversal. Currency direction will depend on whether US yields continue to decline and whether the euro area can offer a more supportive economic and policy outlook.

European risks remain in focus

Investors are also monitoring fiscal and political developments in France. Concerns about budget negotiations and public debt can affect French bond yields and sentiment toward the euro area. These risks may limit demand for the euro even when the dollar weakens.

Levels and catalysts to monitor

Traders may watch recent swing highs and lows, momentum and trading volume for confirmation rather than relying on a single price level. Upcoming US producer-price and retail-sales releases, alongside European policy comments, could quickly change the balance of expectations.

For now, EUR/USD remains sensitive to changes in relative interest-rate expectations. A sustained move will likely require confirmation from both the US data flow and the euro area outlook.
